If it damages the mobs, or completely kills them, or places them in a confined space where they cannot fight back (such as a 1x1 where you just swing at their feet, or hit them with potions) then I don't think it is okay.
If it flows unharmed mobs into an arena where glorious and honorable battle can be done, then I guess that's cool.
