It's stll just a sprig? Weird. Figured by now it woulda been more substantial. Do you hit it with any fertilizer at all? Or just regular watering?
Admittedly, I have no idea what kind of fertilizer you'd use on a red maple. With any luck, you'll have more success than I did with my avocado plant.
I overwatered it. It died.
Oh yeah, carrots are starting to come up. Rhubarb too, but the sprouts aren't as photogenic.

If you planted your corn now, you'd see a harvest by the begining of September, which in Florida, wouldn't be so bad. Big thing is soil prep. It's suggested you mix in some manure or organic compost the fall BEFORE you plant, and soil must drain well and not be excessively soggy, causes root rot. Hey, couldn't hurt to try. Worst case scenario, you get no corn. Best case, you get free corn in September, tho it'll probably be different than what you're used to in stores.
Final edit: I love your rocks. Now stack them before I have an attack of OCD and drive down there to do it for you while you're at work. XD
