Today I updated the server to versions 1.11 - The Exploration Update. I don't anticipate this to affect any of the plugins, but keep your eye out for anything misbehaving and report it on the forums. I'll be taking a look at plugins all the same to make sure whatever can be updated is updated.

I've also added a new World called "Den1_11". The current world is getting on in age, and the Minecraft has always had a hard time generating new things in old worlds. This new world will allow everyone to experience the new features and have a fresh start. Please note that the new world will not be replacing the existing world.

Yep, that thing I said in the title. The Wolf Den will be going public this week, likely Thursday. It's something I've been mentioning for some time but haven't gotten to yet. I think we're at a point where we can support it again, and the server could certainly use the boost in players, though I can't say what we should expect. It's a big world, and there are lots of other servers to compete with.

If you want to protect your goods from potential theft and destruction, I suggest you look into Towny, which we now run on the server. It provides all sorts of protections within the towns players create. There's too much involved for me to talk about in this post, but the documentation can be found by following this link (hint: click me).

Thanks to some very generous help from a couple of our players, The Wolf Den has just received it's next wave of updates! Now it's sporting a fancy Crucial MX200 250GB SSD, and a Revolution Xt 430W 80-Gold certified PSU from Enermax. I fought with the server all day getting everything transferred to the SSD, which is sporting Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and now things seem to be running smoothly.

I'd like to thank everyone for the support, especially the donators who covered a whopping half of the cost of these parts.

And of course, pictures!

Out with the old...

There was this one issue with the PSU. The 8x CPU pin splits into 2, but whoever was in charge separating the cables got it wrong. Oh well, it was an easy fix. Funny enough, the old PSU was only 160 watts, with no certification. The CPU uses 100 watts on it's own.

Hello Everyone,

It is with regret that I must announce that Fax_Machine will no longer be an Administrator on The Wolf Den. A recent event has shed light on behavioral patterns in which he has on multiple occasions used his power to grief other players. This has resulted in a toxic environment in which some players feel uneasy at his presence, and that is not the sort of environment I want for my our server. What makes this more serious is that this is not the first time Fax’s abuse of power has been called into question, and while we’ve been lenient in the past, almost to a fault, I can no longer stand by. From this moment forth, Fax_Machine has been demoted to the Member group.

This decision was not easy for me, as Fax_Machine has put tremendous effort into maintaining and improving the server, especially in my absence, and has been with the server for many years. For this reason he will remain welcome in The Wolf Den. I will also make available to him a copy of all the work he has done, so that he may continue it elsewhere. Unfortunately, The Wolf Den cannot be that place for him.

Something has happened that hasn't happened in a long time. Our Server just got a Hardware update. No, nothing fancy like an i7 processor or an SSD (one day). In this case, it's a, well, case. Yes, the old case was missing it's front plate, most of the back plate, had broken USB ports, broken LED ports... Basically, what I'm saying is the server was as much cat fur as it was server.

Now the Server has a fancy new case, so at least if it doesn't run nice, it looks nice! In all seriousness, the new case has fans and filters a plenty, and enough slots for us to significantly expand storage in the future, so we're on the right path for future upgrades now.

Yes, that's right, the forums are changing once more. For the handful of you that continued to use the cruddy Vanilla forums, you knew this was coming. It's back to MyBB, and honestly, I like what I see. If you care for more details about why this change was made, read on.

Note: All accounts registered prior to February of 2015 have been transferred over, and your old login credentials should work. If you registered your account during or after February you may be required to register a new account. I apologize for the inconvenience.

What was wrong with the old forums?

The old forums, to put it lightly, were garbage. When we first installed the Vanilla forums it looked like a great way to bring wolf-den.net into the modern age. They were clean and added some social aspects such as User walls. For a brief time they worked well, and so we kept them.

And then people tried to use them.

Once we got some threads under our belt it was quickly discovered that the forums where woefully unfit to handle large amounts of data. It became difficult to find what you were looking for, and the act of posting a new discussion was woefully unintuitive.

Then things started to break. Not just a thing here or there, but all the things. Moderation options had to be done on a thread by thread basis (no batch actions), post counts were inaccurate or not counting at all, alerts never really cleared, new threads didn't mark themselves as new... It's a pretty big list.

And so here we are, back with MyBB, something I think everyone is comfortable with.
