So what's Sigurther been up to besides being a traitor to his server by fiddling with the plugins on Nyncraft? Gardening, of course!


The whole backyard, though there are a few plants around the porch to the left of this picture. Two of my rock piles visible here. The southern one is behind a tree that's behind me in this picture.


Left side, the Western Cairn, onions in the white box, some ferns and lilies, and carrots in the green box.


In between them, my favorite rock pile, the Northern Cairn.



The right side of the yard, Rhubarb patch (surrounded by bricks), raspberry plant (stone circle), yellow squash, box watermelon, tomato, zucchini, sweet red peppers, more tomatoes, ichiban eggplant, red dragon chilis and cucumbers. Jammed up into the corner in the left is a rescued bamboo plant, but no telling if it'll grow yet.

So, yes, I am growing watermelons and carrots, and if with a stretch of the imagination, one could consider the bamboo to be sugar cane! XD No taters, sadly. Not enough space, store ran out anyway. I'll try wheat when I actually have a yard big enough, and beetroots will never touch my hands.

Unfortunately, I have discovered a fatal flaw during the torrential downpour today. The gutter directly above my onion patch is clogged of crap and draining over the edge into it instead of down the drainpipe. If they don't survive the storm, I may have to replace them. If they do, gonna have to clear that drain or move the whole shebang two feet to the left. Nobody likes soggy onions!

You know me, I love farming! Really, I'll be happy if they just don't die. Anything else is icing on the cake. I swear I have a brown thumb.

When one has a lot of free time to fill, one gets creative. a third of the time spent during days planting, I was fixing the screen door. Protip - You can make wood fuller/putty by mixing wood glue or elmers glue with sawdust. Sands down mostly smooth and once painted, you can barely tell the difference! Also, you don't need a countersink bit to hide screws. Just use a drill bit the size of the screw head to drill down low enough to sink the screw head into, then fill it with yer homeade wood putty! XD

Someday, I'll make a fine homeowner.

I love your garden and rock piles! I unfortunately do not take after my mother and her love of gardening. As much as I love gardens, I am far too lazy to tend them. I need sturdy plants that can be left alone. While I may not have done much yard work past fighting with the vines that wish to rend my fence apart, I do have plans on revamping my yard to make the place look better.

My garden consists of a Japanese Red Maple Sapling that I stole from a cemetery last year in NY. Unfortunately the tree gets burned to hell in the summer.. So it's an indoor tree for a good 8 months of the year.. I don't foresee it growing much.. It's grown like 2 inches all year lol.

Fancy Garden sig.. I was thinking about growing some corn this year but got lazy and now its kinda late to plant it.

Blue, I think that image is broken. Pity, really, you've talked about your red maple, and I want to see it. We have them all over town and it's a big part of my town's history, so I consider them to be a noteworthy plant indeed.

The upkeep is the hard part. I don't mind watering daily, but I am concerned that insect control, rotating for maximum sunlight (my yard space barely gets half a days worth of full sun), pollinating and fertilizing may be more than I bargained for. We'll see. It's definitely not as easy as Minecraft farming, but I totally understand why hoes break so easily, Busted a trowel within two days of tilling planting beds.

Got a lettuce patch now too. If I had a bacon plant, I could make a sandwich!

It's stll just a sprig? Weird. Figured by now it woulda been more substantial. Do you hit it with any fertilizer at all? Or just regular watering?

Admittedly, I have no idea what kind of fertilizer you'd use on a red maple. With any luck, you'll have more success than I did with my avocado plant.

I overwatered it. It died.

Oh yeah, carrots are starting to come up. Rhubarb too, but the sprouts aren't as photogenic.


If you planted your corn now, you'd see a harvest by the begining of September, which in Florida, wouldn't be so bad. Big thing is soil prep. It's suggested you mix in some manure or organic compost the fall BEFORE you plant, and soil must drain well and not be excessively soggy, causes root rot. Hey, couldn't hurt to try. Worst case scenario, you get no corn. Best case, you get free corn in September, tho it'll probably be different than what you're used to in stores.

Final edit: I love your rocks. Now stack them before I have an attack of OCD and drive down there to do it for you while you're at work. XD
